Angles captured. One wide locating shot from up the slope, then three close views.

Morphology

Two or more small fruitbodies, caps 2–4 cm, saturated violet, convex. Stipes slender, pale violet. A pale speckled puffball sits alongside in the wide frame.

Habitat & substrate

Moss and litter along a decaying log at the base of a slope.

Lookalikes & what rules them out

Laccaria has thick, distant, waxy gills; Cortinarius thinner and closer with a rusty print. Several frames here show close thin gills with a dull pinkish-brown cast, favouring Cortinarius.

Notes

The wide frame (#4381) was taken 42 minutes before the close-ups — the trail loops back past this spot.
