Angles captured. 5 frames of one subject.

Morphology

Cap 5–7 cm, vivid lemon to chrome yellow, smooth, dry, convex flattening to plane, with dark insect specks. Stipe white to pale cream, stout. No veil remnants or ring visible.

Habitat & substrate

Deep white-pine needle litter.

Lookalikes & what rules them out

A saturated yellow cap over a white stipe raises Amanita (the flavoconia group), Russula, or a yellow Hygrocybe. No warts or ring visible, but a washed cap loses them.

Notes

Treat with caution. Yellow Amanita species here include toxic ones.
