Cinnabar polypore on a stick
Pycnoporus cinnabarinus Species

Morphology
Two or three fused brackets along a fallen stick, each 2–4 cm across, intensely uniform orange-red, matte and finely felted above, thin and corky, attached broadly with no stipe.
Habitat & substrate
On a fallen hardwood stick lifted from the forest floor. Saprotrophic white-rot.
Lookalikes & what rules them out
Little else in the northeast is this colour.
To confirm this identification
Nothing essential.
Notes
The same species as TM0020 at Broad Meadow Brook, five days earlier — the first taxon to appear at two different sites in this guide.
