Tall grey-brown agaric by a boulder
Pluteus sp. Genus
Angles captured. Six frames including two excellent low views looking straight up at the gills.
Morphology
Cap 6–8 cm, greyish-brown, plane with a shallow umbo, radially fibrillose. Gills crowded, narrow, and unmistakably free — they stop short of the stipe leaving a clean collar all the way round, and carry a distinct pinkish flush at full resolution. Stipe long, 8–10 cm, whitish, smooth, faintly fibrillose, slightly swollen at the base.
Habitat & substrate
Dark humus at the foot of a large granite boulder, deep shade.
Lookalikes & what rules them out
Free crowded gills flushing pink on a tall smooth stipe is Pluteus — the pink comes from maturing spores. Volvariella is the only real alternative and would show a sac-like volva at the base, which is not present here.
To confirm this identification
A spore print to confirm pink, and a look at the stipe base for a volva. Species within Pluteus needs microscopy.
Notes
Upgraded. At full resolution the gills are clearly free and already flushing pink — enough to move this from unidentified to genus.
